Open to grade 12
Prerequisite:  English grades of at least a B average
Counts as both writing and literature requirement

This is a college-level course where you will be surrounded by wonderful literature and students who enjoy that literature.  In AP English Literature and Composition, students critically read and write about literature.  Emphasis is placed on the study of fictional novels, plays, short stories, and poetry of differing time periods, genres, and literary styles.  Students should expect this course to require more time and effort than previous English courses as it explores subjects in greater depth.  However, it will also offer greater opportunity for individual progress and achievement.  Satisfactory scores on the national exam may qualify students for advanced placement credit in college English. Texts include college-type texts which are for mature readers. Possible books taught may include Jane Eyre, The Kite Runner, Frankenstein, and The Awakening. Summer reading and writing assignments are required.
